This hybrid course is designed to provide you with everything necessary to earn a certificate as an Adult Care Home Operator in the State of Kansas. The class is based on the principles of assisted living as outlined in the KDADS regulation manual and is taught by a variety of presenters that are currently working in the field. The course will be facilitated by Joan Hudson, KCAL Clinical Consultant and Polly Berkley, VP of Operations and Education for KHCA/KCAL. This course provides knowledge and insight on the rules, regulations and responsibilities governing the operation of a state licensed only adult care home. The course fee includes a minimum of 45 hours of instruction, electronic program handout materials (to print if you wish) and a printed Operators manual which will be mailed to the address that you provide when you register. The KDADS registration fee is not included in the fee for this course. (The KDADS fee is pro-rated and at most would be $65.) The test for this course must be completed in person. Scheduling options will be made available to you during the course.
This virtual course will require full dedication during the day. Many sessions are recorded and available on demand, but 9 am daily class meetings are a required part of the course. YOU MUST have a CAMERA/VIDEO option on your computer to participate in these daily class get togethers. It is highly recommended that the recorded sessions be completed by the end of each day to maximize learning in the daily class meeting the following morning. A computer with internet, audio and video is required to take this course as is a valid email address that is checked frequently. 9:00 – 10:00 am meetings will be on the following days. These meeting will be held via GoTo Meeting and are REQUIRED. If these live meetings are not attended you will not be able to sit for the exam.

Competency tests after education sessions are a required part of learning in the KCAL virtual format and instructors will be available to answer questions during the course time frame of February 15-28, 2023
The EXAM will take place in person at the KHCA/KCAL Office on February 28, 2023. Students will have a one to one personal consultation on site after their exam is graded. Please mark your calendar for February 28th.

Operators: This course is approved for forty-five (45) continuing education credit hours for adult care home operators who attend the entire course. Operators will be granted thirty (30) hours in the core area of Administration and fifteen (15) hours in the core area of Resident Care by the Kansas Department of Aging and Disability Services. Nurses: The Kansas Health Care Association is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Kansas State Board of Nursing. This course offering is approved for forty-five (45) contact hours applicable for RN and LPN relicensure. Kansas State Board of Nursing Approved Provider Number: LT0030-0338.
Social Workers: Kansas Health Care Association is an approved provider through the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board of continuing education for social workers. KSBSRB Approval 17-006. This course is approved for 45 continuing education hours.
