9:00-9:10 Welcome, Intros and Orientation to CNA/CMA Boot Camp

9:10 – 9:40 Principles of Assisted Living – Joan Hudson

This session will review the core principles that guide Kansas Assisted Living practices including person centered care, dignity, autonomy and respect for individual preference.  In this session Joan will explore strategies for CNA’s and CMA’s for promoting independence while providing necessary support and assistance to residents.

9:40 – 10:30 Understanding Survey; Intro to Regs – Dawne Altis, KDADS

It can feel stressful when your community is being surveyed by the state (KDADS).  In this session Dawne Altis from KDADS will cover what surveyors are looking for when they are there and how as a CNA or CMA you can best interact with a survey team.  Dawne will discuss what you need to know about the regulatory process including: what a 2567 is, what scope and severity means, and how often you can expect to see a survey team in your community.

10:30-10:45 Break

10:45 – 11:30 Ensuring Safety and Security in Assisted Living Environments – Joan Hudson and Jen Bolyard

In this session, Joan Hudson and Jen Bolyard will discuss identifying potential hazards in our communities and addressing them to enhance the well-being of our residents.  You will gain valuable insights and practical tips to promote a safe and thriving community for all.  Topics of discussion include Falls, Skin, ANE, Weight, Tube Feeding, Glucometers, Competency, Catheters and Infection Control

11:30 – 12:30 Lunch – Provided

12:30 – 1:30 Navigating Challenging Personalities – Christine Jordan
This session with Christine Jordan LMSW is about equipping assisted living CNA’s and CMA’s with effective strategies for managing challenging personalities. Working with elderly residents, their families can all present various challenges. In this session, we will explore practical techniques and approaches to enhance communication, foster empathy, and promote positive interactions the people we work with every day (and their personalities)

1:30-2:30 See Something, Say Something: Fraud, Waste & Abuse in Healthcare – Lauren Wolf, Aetna

What do you do if you find yourself aware of a resident being abused/neglected or someone asks you to falsify documentation/charting?  What do you do if you feel your resident is in danger?  As the Certified Nurse Aide or Certified Medication Aide, you have a direct line of sight into everyday events at the facility.  This presentation will cover how to handle ethical and legal challenges that arise.

2:30 – 2:45 Break

2:45- 3:45 Effective Orientation – Kasey Breidenthal

What is your responsibility as a learner? This session will teach you about being an effective orientee and your right and responsibility as a learner to ask questions.  Providing quality care to our residents is effectively achieved by being an empowered learner. It helps you to do what’s best for the residents because you asked questions when you were a new hire.  Kasey will also cover your role and responsibility with other new hires.

3:45-4:00 Final Q & A, prize drawings and Wrap Up
